Count Basie Orchestra brings legendary sound to the Fredericton Playhouse
On Friday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m., the legendary Count Basie Orchestra will perform at the Fredericton Playhouse.
Celebrating its 80th anniversary, the Count Basie Orchestra remains one of the greatest big band jazz orchestras in music history. Founded by William “Count” Basie in Kansas City in 1935, the group has included many of the greatest instrumentalists and vocalists in jazz, including Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Sweets Edison and many others.
The orchestra has performed for royalty around the world, appeared in countless films and television shows, and has won 18 Grammy Awards – more than any other orchestra.
Today, under the leadership of director Scotty Barnhart, the Count Basie Orchestra continues to tour the world while upholding excellent standards in swinging in shouting the blues with precision. See this 18-piece orchestra live to understand why they’re known as “the most explosive force in jazz.”
Tickets for the Count Basie Orchestra are available through the Fredericton Playhouse box office by calling 458-8344, or online at www.theplayhouse.ca.
