22. Velveteen Rabbit

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will bring popular children’s story The Velveteen Rabbit to life on the Fredericton Playhouse stage on Sunday, April 3 at 2 p.m.

The Velveteen Rabbit tells the story of a young boy and his love for a stuffed rabbit that eventually becomes alive. Based on the beloved book by Margery Williams and presented as part of the Playhouse’s Kidstage Series, this ballet focuses on the importance of friendship, love and the discovery of what is real.

Widely recognized for its innovation, warmth, humour and beauty, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is the only major Canadian ballet company with a repertoire that consists exclusively of original works.

The company has gained national and international recognition, propelling Canada’s Ballet Jörgen to the forefront of the North American dance scene, sharing ballet performances with more than 50,000 audience members each year from coast to coast in Canada and the northern United States.

In addition to this performance, the Playhouse is pleased to present a special Experience More! event for families on Wednesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. Children age three to nine are invited to join us at the Fredericton Public Library for a Pyjama and Stuffie Party: Reading of The Velveteen Rabbit. Kids are encouraged to leave their stuffed animals at the library after the reading for a stuffie sleepover, during which time they will come to life – children will receive photographs of their stuffies’ adventures the next day. The event is free, but registration is required by calling 460-2806.

Tickets for The Velveteen Rabbit are available through the Fredericton Playhouse box office by calling 458-8344, or online at
