Ukrainian band DakhaBrakha brings new meaning to world music

On Thursday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. during Fredericton Frostival, Ukrainian “ethnic chaos” band DakhaBrakha will bring their unexpected and exhilarating music to the Fredericton Playhouse stage.

A world music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine, DakhaBrakha experiments with Ukrainian folk music, adding the rhythms of the surrounding world to create a bright, unique and unforgettable sound that incorporates Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian instrumentation.

Since forming in 2004, the band has performed in venues and at festivals all over the world, impressing audiences everywhere with a musical spectrum that ranges from intimate to riotous. Boasting an astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range, DakhaBrakha is original, outstanding and authentic, bringing new meaning to the concept of world music.

In association with DakhaBrakha’s performance, the Playhouse is presenting an Experience More! Traditional Ukrainian Dining Experience prior to the show, on Thursday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Fredericton. Executive Chef Matt MacKenzie will prepare delicious and authentic Ukrainian cuisine. Tickets are available online, or through the box office.
