Legendary performer Darlene Love kicks off the holiday season at the Playhouse
On Tuesday, November 24 at 7:30 p.m., the Fredericton Playhouse kicks off the holiday season with legendary singer Darlene Love.
With a career that began in the early 1960s, Darlene Love continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her sensational performances and warm, gracious stage presence. Love started out as a background vocalist with the Blossoms, performing with the likes of Tom Jones, the Righteous Brothers, Dionne Warwick, Marvin Gaye and Elvis Presley.
She went on to emerge as a star in her own right, with Billboard hits such as “He’s a Rebel,” “The Boy I’m Going to Marry,” “Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets Home” and the No. 1 holiday classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” a song she performed annually for 30 years on The Late Show with David Letterman. Love has also starred in Broadway hits like Hairspray and Grease, and even played herself in Leader of the Pack, credited as Broadway’s first “jukebox musical.”
One of the subjects of the Oscar and Grammy-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, Love was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. A true living legend, Darlene Love will kick off the Christmas season with an unforgettable holiday show.
The Playhouse is also pleased to present a free Experience More! event in association with this show. Join us on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. for a screening of Twenty Feet from Stardom. Presented in partnership with the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Co-operative, this award-winning documentary tells the untold story of backup singers like Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer and more.
