Two award-winning bands join forces for special PEI double bill
Two upbeat bands with Prince Edward Island ties will share the Playhouse stage on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. Audiences will be captivated by this special double bill, featuring Gordie MacKeeman & his Rhythm Boys and Vishtèn.
Gifted with jaw-dropping stagecraft and showmanship, the members of the ECMA-winning Gordie MacKeeman & his Rhythm Boys present an exhilarating live show. With flavours of traditional bluegrass and roots music bolstered by stunning musicianship, this PEI-based group offers up rockabilly-inspired rhythms, upbeat reels, weighted laments and stunning fiddle work.
Featuring a wide range of instruments – from the fiddle and banjo to the mandolin and guitar – audiences will be charmed by Gordie MacKeeman’s famous crazy legs as he dances effortlessly across the stage, backed by the Rhythm Boys’ surefooted roots instrumentation.
With band members hailing from both PEI and the nearby Magdalen Islands, Vishtèn is a trio that has crafted its own brand of new traditional music. Known for a trademark sound that combines original compositions and traditional French-Acadian songs with driving rhythms, these accomplished multi-instrumentalists and singers have developed a unique blend of fiddle, guitar, accordion, harmonium, whistles, piano, bodhran, jaw harp, Moog, electric guitar and percussive dance.
Since forming in 2000, Vishtèn has become one of the most exciting folk bands on the international music scene. During this period they have released four albums, won numerous awards and have played more than a thousand performances in more than a dozen countries throughout Europe, Australia and North America.
