On Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m., the Fredericton Playhouse Spotlight Series presents two of Canada’s top comedians: Mary Walsh with special guest Sharron Matthews.

Mary Walsh is recognized throughout Canada as an accomplished actress, comedian, political satirist and social activist. One of the original stars of CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Walsh’s most memorable character, Marg Delahunty, became famous for ambushing politicians and submitting them to satirical interviews.

Known for her cutting political satire and broadly defined caricatures, Walsh brings the same wit to her stand-up comedy. On stage, she expertly navigates the rage brought on by pop culture, politics and capitalism through her vibrant and constantly emerging characters.

Special guest star Sharron Matthews has worked in film, television, plays and musicals, and in her greatest passion, cabaret. She was a coach on Global’s hit television show Canada Sings, and played Joan the Secretary in the movie Mean Girls. In her unique stage show, Matthews serves up her signature irreverent wit with solid gold mash-ups by artists like Lady Gaga, Guns ‘N Roses, Beyoncé and more in a comic tour-de-force cabaret performance.

In addition to this performance, the Playhouse is pleased to offer an additional Experience More! activity. On Wednesday, April 22 at 7 p.m., join us at Theatre New Brunswick’s Rehearsal Studio for Stand Up and Sing with Sharron Matthews. In this special workshop, Matthews will share her years of experience from working with award-winning groups all over the world. Participants will have a riot while learning essential vocal and performance techniques. Interested participants may register through the Playhouse box office, and are asked to come with one song prepared.

Tickets for Mary Walsh with special guest Sharron Matthews are available through the Fredericton Playhouse box office at 458-8344 or online at www.theplayhouse.ca.
