On Saturday, March 21 at 3 p.m., the Fredericton Playhouse is pleased to present a special performance by the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra. Featuring Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite with Peekaboo Shadows Theatre, this show will showcase some of Fredericton’s incredible talent.

Under the direction of conductor Richard Hornsby, the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra will offer a fresh take on several pieces, including Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, which is inspired by classic fairy tales including Sleeping Beauty and Tom Thumb.

The orchestra will be joined by Peekaboo Shadow Theatre, a Fredericton-based group that will add an extra element to the performance using the ancient and mystical art of shadow puppetry.

Other pieces in the show include Harry Potter Suite, and Les Misérables, featuring 11-year-old singer Michelle Buyko. A Fredericton-based performer, Buyko has previously performed with the UNB Concert Band, and has won a number of awards for her remarkable voice.

The Fredericton Chamber Orchestra has been giving concerts regularly in Fredericton since 1976. Orchestra members are either accomplished amateurs who have studied music and performance, or professional musicians. This special presentation is the perfect show for families, and an excellent way to introduce children to the power and presence of orchestral music.

In addition to this performance, the Playhouse is pleased to present a Mother Goose Costume Parade and Teatime on Saturday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fredericton Public Library. As part of this free, non-ticketed Experience More! activity, children are encouraged to dress up like their favourite character from a Mother Goose story, and join Mother Goose herself in exploring the library bookshelves and participating in a morning tea while listening to nursery rhymes.

Tickets for Fredericton Chamber Orchestra are available through the Fredericton Playhouse box office at 458-8344 or online at www.theplayhouse.ca.
