Over the next few months, the Fredericton Playhouse is pleased to offer a wide range of kid-friendly and family-focused events as part of our Spotlight Series. Join us for diverse shows that will delight audiences of all ages, providing entertainment and bonding experiences for families, and creating lasting memories for children!

The Star Keeper. Coming up on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m., The Star Keeper is the story of Pretzel, a funny little worm with a funny little face. His world is inhabited by comical, surprising and touching characters: a tap-dancing spider, a mermaid who plays hard to get, a family of picnicking seahorses and many more memorable figures. From award-winning Quebec-based puppetry company Théâtre de l’Œil, The Star Keeper is a piece of universal theatre without words and without borders, immersed in the magical universe of children’s dreams.

Fredericton Chamber Orchestra. In a special concert on Saturday, March 21 at 3 p.m., the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra presents a fresh take on Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, a piece inspired by classic fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty and Tom Thumb. Local group Peekaboo Shadow Theatres will add an extra element to the performance using the ancient and mystical art of shadow puppetry. Also participating in the show is 11-year-old singing sensation Michelle Buyko. This is the perfect show for families, and an excellent way to introduce children to the power and presence of orchestral music.

Fred Penner. Beloved Canadian entertainer Fred Penner will perform on the Playhouse stage on Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m. He brings 25 years of commitment, consistency and depth to a career that skillfully blends a number of genres. Known for classic songs like “The Cat Came Back,” Penner’s diverse repertoire includes 12 children’s albums and countless packed shows across North America. The two-time Juno winner has inspired confidence and joy in children around the world. Experiencing him live is a memorable event audiences will remember forever thanks to Penner’s combination of warmth, ease, enthusiasm and grace.

Timber! Young circus company Cirque Alfonse brings Timber! to Fredericton on Monday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. Using forestry resources available on their real-life family farm in Quebec, these performers will keep you on the edge of your seat with incredible acts of aerial acrobatics backed onstage by a live traditional folk soundtrack. Timber! combines epic feats of strength and agility with the most picturesque aspects of traditional Quebec folklore. This is a show that inspires awe and excitement in all who have the chance to see it first-hand.
