Folk trio Bon Débarras brings fun and inventive energy to the stage

by on January 5, 2015

On Friday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m., join Quebecois trio Bon Débarras for an energetic performance at the Fredericton Playhouse, full of upbeat folk music, traditional step-dancing and creative body percussion.

Bon Débarras is the result of the unexpected meeting of three dynamic artists involved in music, dance and poetry. Inspired by global influences, these performers present a show full of fun and inventive energy.

The trio consists of percussive dancer, musician and poet Dominic Desrochers; accomplished multi-instrumentalist and world-traveller Jean-François Dumas; and Cédric Dind-Lavoie, a bass and double-bass player with an active presence in the Montreal music scene.

Using instruments like the guitar, banjo, mandolin, accordion, washboard and harmonica, and integrating foot percussion, jig and body percussion, Bon Débarras creates musical atmospheres that transcend boundaries and ages.

In addition to the performance on January 16, children age five and up are invited to a free Experience More! activity at the Fredericton Public Library on Saturday, January 17 at 10 a.m. Members of Bon Débarras will lead a Body Percussion Workshop, encouraging participants to clap their hands, tap their toes and stomp their feet. For more information or to register, call 460-2806.

Tickets for Bon Débarras are available through the Fredericton Playhouse box office at 458-8344 or online at
