Christmas is only a month away, and that means it’s time for the Fredericton Playhouse’s annual gift guide! Give the gift of live performance this holiday season for an experience your loved ones will never forget.

Ballet BC (Friday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m.)

Ballet BC is an internationally acclaimed contemporary ballet company. Bold and creative, the company is known for its distinct style and unique approach. With three pieces from three celebrated choreographers, this performance will showcase dance at its most essential.

Good Lovelies and Old Man Luedecke (Wednesday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m.)

Two of Canada’s most delightful folk music acts will liven up the Playhouse stage during this double bill. Funny and upbeat with just a pinch of sass, the three musicians behind the Good Lovelies excel at combining lighthearted songwriting with their irresistibly buoyant dispositions for a blithe brand of folk music with universal appeal. Old Man Luedecke is a Juno-winning performer known for creating narrative-driven folk songs that are playful, coy and soul-warming. He’ll have audiences hanging on his every word.

Rave On! The Buddy Holly Experience (Sunday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.)

Returning to the Playhouse, the always crowd-pleasing Billy McGuigan is a dead-ringer for legendary icon Buddy Holly. Rave On! is an electrifying, high-energy, rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza that reinvents the tribute show and  breathes new life into the music of Buddy Holly for a sincere and exciting rock performance.

Jill Barber (Wednesday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m.)

With a career that has spanned genres from acoustic folk to powerful jazz, and lyrics that cross language barriers from English to French, Jill Barber is well known for her incredible range and versatility. In concert, Barber charms her audiences while weaving a romantic spell that draws listeners in and keeps them hooked on her every note. Featuring new music from her sixth album, Fool’s Gold, this show promises to be fresh and intimate.

Fredericton Chamber Orchestra (Saturday, March 21 at 3 p.m.)

In this special matinee show, the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra offers a fresh take on Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, a composition inspired by classic fairy tales. The orchestra will be joined by pianist Heather Dunham, and local group Peekaboo Shadows Theatre will add an extra element to the performance using the ancient and mystical art of shadow puppetry. This is the perfect show for families, and an excellent way to introduce children to the power and presence of orchestral music.

Neil Berg’s 101 Years of Broadway (Thursday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m.)

From composer, lyricist and producer Neil Berg, 101 Years of Broadway brings the best of Broadway to Fredericton. This show recreates the biggest moments from the finest shows of the century, featuring the actual stars of shows such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar and many more. These amazing performers will light up the stage with songs from the hit shows in which they starred.

Pink Floyd: The Wall (Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m.)

Classic Albums Live recreates Pink Floyd’s rock opera concept album The Wall in this unforgettable concert event. Mary Walsh with Special Guest Sharron Matthews (Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m.)

Celebrated Canadian comic Mary Walsh is known for her cutting political satire and broadly defined caricatures. Walsh brings the same wit to her stand-up comedy, expertly navigating the rage brought on by pop culture, politics and capitalism. Special guest Sharron Matthews will offer her own unique take on pop culture, serving up irreverent wit with mash-ups by artists like Lady Gaga, Guns ‘N Roses and Beyonce in a comic tour-de-force cabaret performance.

Timber! (Monday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m.)

Using forestry resources available on their real-life family farm in small-town Quebec, the members of Cirque Alfonse will keep audiences on the edge of their seats with incredible feats of aerial acrobatics backed by a live traditional folk soundtrack. Timber! is a creative, one-of-a-kind show that inspires awe and excitement in all who have the chance to see it first-hand.

Kidstage Package (Peter Pan on Sunday, December 28 at 2 p.m.; The Star Keeper on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m.; and Fred Penner on Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m.)
