Experience More! at the Fredericton Playhouse

by on October 9, 2014

This season, the Fredericton Playhouse has an exciting Spotlight Series lineup, consisting of 27 world-class performances in music, theatre and dance from a wide range of genres. But in addition to these shows, the Playhouse is thrilled to offer the Experience More! program, a series of innovative workshops and activities designed to enrich your performing arts experiences. Beginning this month, the 2014-2015 Experience More! program consists of 14 unique learning opportunities.

Dancers of various skill levels are invited to participate in a number of workshops, from the Urban Style Step Dance Workshop, offered in conjunction with percussive step dancing group [ZØGMA]’s performance, to a Master Dance Class in Contemporary Ballet led by a member of Ballet BC, to Urban Dance Styles, a hip-hop dance class featuring members of Kaha:wi Dance Theatre.

Want to explore the stars and learn more about Galileo and the first telescopes? Presented in association with baroque orchestra Tafelmusik’s The Galileo Project, you’re invited to a series of special activities: A Space Odyssey in Blacklight for children, Stargazing with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, an opportunity to Get to Know Galileo and a Pre-Show Talk with Tafelmusik’s own Alison MacKay.

The Playhouse is offering a number of Experience More! activities specifically intended for children, like a Body Percussion Workshop with Quebecois folk band Bon Débarras. Families will delight in the opportunity to stick around after The Star Keeper for Meet the Puppets, a session with the puppets and puppeteers of children’s theatre company Théâtre de l’Œil. And in conjunction with the Fredericton Chamber Orchestra’s performance, kids are invited to dress up and participate in a Mother Goose Costume Parade and Teatime.

For those looking to get the most out of Spotlight Series shows, be sure to join us for a Pre-Show Talk with Emily Molnar, Artistic Director of Ballet BC. And stick around after dance artist Jacques Poulin-Denis’ raw solo performance for a Facilitated Discussion with Tim Yerxa to further explore the contemporary piece, Target of God.

Whether you prefer to sit back and relax with The Buddy Holly Story Film Screening in association with Rave On! The Buddy Holly Experience, or Stand Up and Sing with Sharron Matthews, a special workshop that focuses on vocal and performance techniques, Experience More! offers something for everyone.

Many Experience More! activities are offered free of charge, while others have a nominal registration fee. Please note that some programs may require pre-registration, and venues vary.
