by on September 23, 2014

On Thursday, October 9 at 7:30 p.m., join captivating dance artist Nova Bhattacharya at the Fredericton Playhouse for Date with Dance, a special studio presentation.

Born in Halifax, Bhattacharya is a vivacious performer with a charismatic stage presence, recognized for her strong technique and thoughtful characterizations. Her performances have struck a deep emotional chord with audiences and critics alike.

Presented in the Playhouse’s intimate backstage studio space, Bhattacharya will discuss the roots of her compelling work, and will present a series of bharatanatyam (classical Indian) and contemporary dances. These dances include Pushpanjali, a classical dance that offers a glimpse into both the abstract and narrative elements of the form, as well as Bhattacharya’s own pieces, Maskura and Related Fragments Remix, which are examples of her contemporary work.

Through this lecture-demonstration, audiences will learn how dances from other parts of the world are becoming part of the Canadian narrative. It also serves as an excellent primer for contemporary dance and how it is evolving in Canada.

Tickets for Date with Dance are available through the Fredericton Playhouse box office , or online at
