On Thursday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m., Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience will return to Fredericton, bringing the spirit of Mardi Gras to the Playhouse. This Grammy-winning act will have audiences on their feet with their fun, upbeat music.

Fredericton audiences will remember Simien from his incredible performance during the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in 2009. It was a show that had everyone in attendance dancing all night long, and it’s an event that Harvest music programmer Brent Staeben remembers fondly.

“Terrance Simien is the complete embodiment of a New Orleans Mardi Gras Zydeco party,” Staeben says. “So much fun, you won’t stop shaking and groovin’!”

An eighth generation Louisiana Creole, Simien has been shattering myths about Zydeco roots music for nearly 30 years, and has become one of the most respected and accomplished artists in American roots music today. He and his band have performed over 7,000 concerts and performed in over 45 countries during their career. Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience recently received their second Grammy Award, taking home the prize for Best Regional Roots Album for their Dockside Sessions album earlier this year.

Simien has helped bring Zydeco to millions of listeners thanks to his involvement in films like Disney’s animated movie The Princess and the Frog. The 2009 film featured the popular song “Gonna Take You There,” a Zydeco-flavoured track written by Randy Newman, inspired by Simien’s music, and featuring Simien as a musician. Simien’s performances of his original song “Dance Everybody” and the Zydeco standard “Uncle Bud” also appeared in the 2012 film The Lucky One, starring Zac Efron.

In addition to Simien’s performance, the Playhouse is offering an Experience More! activity. During the PD day on Friday, April 11, Simien will present Zydeco Music for Families beginning at 10:30 a.m. This event takes place at the Fredericton Public Library in Nashwaaksis, located in Nashwaaksis Middle School. This lively encounter will offer a unique glimpse into the culture of Louisiana Zydeco music.

Tickets for Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience are available through the Playhouse box office 1-866-884-5800, or online at www.theplayhouse.ca.
