Backstage Bash proceeds support community programs

by on March 3, 2014

The Bell Aliant Backstage Bash, coming up March 21 at the Fredericton Playhouse, promises to be a fabulous, fun night full of great Motown tunes and tasty food. It’s also the Playhouse’s only annual fundraising event; this means your attendance at the Bash will help make the Playhouse’s community programs possible.

At the Fredericton Playhouse, we believe the arts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, race, socioeconomic status or illness. That’s the idea at the heart of initiatives like Arts are for Everyone and our School Programs.

Arts are for Everyone is a partnership between the Playhouse and community agencies to offer discounted or complimentary tickets to shows, providing opportunities for people facing various barriers to spend time in Fredericton’s premiere performing arts facility. The Playhouse also provides tours for those who have never been to the venue before to make it a place where everyone feels welcomed.

The Fredericton Playhouse reaches out to younger audiences through School Programs, including bus-in matinee performances for students in Grades K-12. These shows expose students to the magic of theatre and performance. In the coming months, school shows include storyteller Donna Washington, the colourful dancers Bouge de là: The Studio/L’atelier and world famous Zydeco artist Terrance Simien.

The Playhouse also offers a Beyond the Stage program to bring talented performers to local schools. This month, Donna Washington will lead a workshop for Fredericton students, focused on using collaborative methods to explore ideas in storytelling. In April, the Sossy Mechanics will introduce students to the world of ridiculous puppetry, and will show them how to bring random objects in their home to life.

Proceeds from the Backstage Bash and the Coast-to-Coast Raffle help support these programs and allow the Playhouse to reach out to thousands of people in our community. Remember – even if you’re unable to attend the Bash, you’re still invited to participate in the Coast-to-Coast Raffle, for the chance to win one of three amazing prize packages!

Tickets for the Backstage Bash and the Coast-to-Coast Raffle are available at www.theplayhouse.ca/backstagebash, by phone at 1-866-884-5800, or at the Playhouse box office. Split-tax receipts will be provided. For more information on the Bell Aliant Backstage Bash, please contact Development Director Dean Brokop at 506-459-6207 or dean@theplayhouse.ca
