Experience More at The Fredericton Playhouse!

by on September 11, 2013

Another season brings another stellar lineup of performances in our flagship Spotlight Series. The series features professional performances in music, theatre, and dance in a variety of genres from comedy, to stunning dance performances, to several family friendly shows, as well as returning audience favourites, and Broadway hits. But, did you know that our Experience More! program delivers a variety of unique experiences in tandem with many of those performances?

Experience More! provides seventeen (17) unique learning opportunities that further enrich your Spotlight Series experiences. Beginning in October, you can learn to play some Irish Rovers favourites on the ukulele, take a masterclass with Cecilia String Quartet, or join members of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra as they introduce you and your children to the much-loved story of Peter and the Wolf in an “instrument petting zoo”.

For dancers, there will be masterclasses in contemporary dance with Toronto Dance Theatre and Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, or a beginner class in Spanish dance/Flamenco with Maria Osende Flamenco. Seasoned dancers and beginners alike can even become part of a beautiful installation piece with award-winning dancer and choreographer Peggy Baker, or deepen their understanding of modern dance in a class led by the Canadian dance icon. If social dance is more your style you can step out to learn the basic vocabulary of social Swing dancing with Brian Sostek and Megan McClellan of Sossy Mechanics.

Want a unique glimpse into the musical culture of Louisiana? Why not bring your family out for some free Zydeco music at The Fredericton Public Library in conjunction with our presentation of renowned Zydeco musician Terrance Simien. Or try your hand at Taiko drumming with members of Fubuki Daiko.

And if getting up close and personal with the artists themselves is what you are looking for, join us for some of our pre or post-show talks featuring artists such as zany Canadian Comedienne Nikki Payne.

Whatever your preference, Experience More! makes for enriching experiences for the whole family and offers more opportunities for learning in a variety of disciplines and genres. While many Experience More! activities are free of charge, others have a nominal registration fee of $12 to $20. ($10 for Spotlight Members). Note that some programs require pre-registration and venues vary.
