Celebrate Mother’s Day with Sheesham & Lotus!

by on May 3, 2013

35_Sheesham&LotusThis Mother’s Day why not take mom out for an afternoon of live music and shenanigans by a couple of guys that have been making music since they were children themselves? Sheesham and Lotus have created a sonic and visual language that simultaneously harkens back to the early days of recording and performance, as well as providing a revisionist take on the old and familiar themes of old-time music.

Special attention to lighting and costume brings the show together in an astounding mix of fiddle tunes, ragtime, old-time sibling harmony and good-time blues, the likes of which will defy expectation and explanation. The collective talents of these two gents will indeed be a feather in the cap of The Fredericton Playhouse on Sunday, May 12 at 2pm.

A feast for the eyes and ears alike, the Sheesham and Lotus stage is a testament to old technologies and new sonic ideas presented to the audience in a bombastic and friendly fashion, creating an environment of sepia-tinged musical textures and horn-modified vocals that evoke a feeling of antiquity. Bass harmonicas and jaw-harps in tandem with cello-banjo and fiddles are played with relish and skill. The Sheesham and Lotus show will surprise and delight with beautiful instruments, period costume and innovative design of sound and objects that exceeds the confines of what today comprises the ‘old-time stringband’.

Originally brought together as the rhythm section for Canadian folk and fiddle outfit Flapjack in 1998, Sheesham and Lotus immersed themselves in the traditional music scenes wherever their travels took them, from West Virginia to Kasheshewan and California to Nova Scotia. This multi-instrumental show will captivate audiences of all ages with their old-time American roots music and dancing, and a little comedy on the side. Prepare to bring down the barn and be juked, jived and jitterbugged by a non-stop performance!

Tickets for Sheesham & Lotus are available at the Fredericton Playhouse box office 1-866-884-5800, or online at
