She’s singing her society song

by on February 13, 2013

22_SarahSlean“Society Song” is the third release from Sarah Slean’s latest double album, Land and Sea. Taken from the more upbeat Land album produced by Joel Plaskett, “Society Song” is about being happy not to belong – something quite different from what we aspire to as humans. But then again, Slean’s powerful voice and original sound doesn’t fit into any musical stereotypes, and she’s shown the world that she’s a master of all trades when it comes to her musical and creative pursuits.

Over the course of her 15 year career Sarah Slean has made eight albums, starred in two short films and a movie musical, published two volumes of poetry, held exhibitions of her artwork, written two string quartets, and shared the stage with five of the country’s leading orchestras. During that time she was nominated for three Junos, two Geminis, and her records have been released in over 10 countries world-wide. Not bad for a singer/songwriter, musician, poet, and occasional actress from Pickering, Ontario.

A truly inspiring artist, Time Magazine Canada called her “one of the most compelling acts Canada has to offer”. To experience one of her live performances is to feel the beautiful ease and playfulness of her music radiating through her natural and sometimes comedic engagement with the audience. And Fredericton audiences will soon have the full Slean experience when she is joined by a hand-picked string orchestra on the Playhouse stage on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30pm.

To know her is to love her and, when you experience her music, you will never forget her.

Tickets for Sarah Slean with Strings are available at the Fredericton Playhouse box office 1-866-884-5800, or online at
