A new year, a new chair

by on January 29, 2013

Fresh on the heels of a new year we are also welcoming a new President to The Fredericton Playhouse Inc. Board of Directors. Patrick Flanagan is a Fredericton entrepreneur whose involvement in the arts and social development fields extends from the Fredericton Music Festival in the 1950s, through the popular 1960s band Naked Lunch, and to most recently celebrating his tenth year as a performer in Christmas @theplayhouse.

“I have many, many distinct memories related to wonderful Playhouse performances over the past near-half century,” says Flanagan. “I am honoured and proud to assume this volunteer leadership position at a time when, as a larger community, we will be dealing with important decisions about our cultural infrastructure, its role in our community, and its long term sustainability.”

Flanagan has a Masters degree in Anthropology from UNB, and has spent extended periods of time away from the Canadian mainstream (Northern Labrador, Costa Rica, and Sweden and other parts of Europe) in various capacities related to schools and adult learning.  He is a member of the Friends of Canadian Broadcasting Board, and gives his time and energy to many community initiatives.

The recently-elected executive of the Fredericton Playhouse Inc. Board of Directors is made up of Patrick Flanagan (President), Wayne Burley (Vice President), Ruth Chippin (Secretary), and Don Harrington (Treasurer).

The other members of the board are Anne Baldero, Jane Blakely, E. John Bliss, Lawrence Durling, Dorothy Frazier, Susan Holt, John Leroux, Kate Rogers, Germaine Pataki-Theriault, Stephen Wheatley, and Paul White.
