Renowned vocalist Patricia O’Callaghan will ‘turn heads and opens ears’ in cabaret performance

by on January 18, 2011

On Monday, January 24 at 8pm, The Fredericton Playhouse welcomes Canadian chanteuse Patricia O’Callaghan in a stunning cabaret performance that exudes charisma while stretching musical boundaries. Noted by Billboard Magazine as “the most promising cabaret performer of her generation,” O’Callaghan is poised to become the genre’s first modern superstar.

With youthful innocence, O’Callaghan enlivens a set of cabaret songs in a program that is emotional, and which showcases her fine voice and interpretive talent. O’Callaghan was born and raised in Northern Ontario, Canada. At seventeen, she lived in Mexico for a year as an exchange student and it was there that she had an epiphany and decided to become an opera singer. Today, she continually gives performances of superb quality and has been called one of the best cabaret singers of our time. Patricia is without question a singer of great range, vocal purity, and unique styling.

Trained at the University of Toronto and the Banff Centre for the Arts, O’Callaghan received a Chalmer’s Grant, which allowed her to devote herself to music full time. Recent career highlights include opening the 2007 season in Weill’s Threepenny Opera with Toronto’s Soulpepper Theatre Company, and touring the Juno winning opera Constantinople by Christos Hatzis to Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House . She recently appeared on jazz clarinetist Don Byron’s album A Fine Line, and has been touring with him as well. Recent television credits include the Ken Finkelman series Foolish Heart, her own Bravo! special, and the CBC/ Rhombus special Youkali Hotel.

“A genuine phenomenon in the making, Patricia O’Callaghan turns heads and opens ears – her devotion to… offbeat repertoire may make the Canadian singer the unlikeliest new star in ages.”

-Michael Posner, The Globe and Mail

Tickets for Patricia O’Callaghan’s January 24th performance are available at the Fredericton Playhouse box office 1-866-884-5800, or online at
