“Sleek Bricklin” adds performances to meet demand

by on August 3, 2010

The new musical that has been capturing public attention this summer, just as the Bricklin sports car itself once did, has announced the addition of two matinée performances to the show’s run on Sunday August 8th and Sunday August 15th at 1pm.

Charting the rise and fall of the iconic sports car produced in New Brunswick in the 1970’s, the production features a stellar cast lead by its namesake, touted an “orange showstopper” by the Telegraph Journal. Supported by the “powerful presence” of George Masswohl as Premier Richard Hatfield and “smokey-voiced and smokin’ hot” local sizzler Tania Breen, this ensemble of talented actors and musicians have made this show a hit with Fredericton audiences.

With political intrigue, big dreams, and even bigger personalities involved in the story, this musical takes a lighthearted look at an iconic moment in Canadian history.  The Telegraph Journal notes that this show “delivers with style,” and reviewer Kate Watson writes that it’s “kitschy good fun and beautifully performed and produced.”

“The public response to the show has been just incredible,” says Fredericton Playhouse Executive Director Tim Yerxa. “They’re having a blast at the show, there’s a lot of laughter, and the music makes it impossible not to groove along. We’re so proud of the team that has made this happen.”

Caleb Marshall, Artistic Producer for Theatre New Brunswick agrees, “For New Brunswick, and for Fredericton, to produce a new Canadian musical that captures the public’s imagination is a true accomplishment.  We are so pleased to be able to add additional performances to this run, giving as many people as possible a chance to come and see this fantastic show.

The Bricklin opened with a world premiere on Friday, July 30th and runs until August 15th. Show times are Tuesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturdays at 5pm & 9pm and Sundays at 1pm and 5pm. Tickets are now on sale through the Fredericton Playhouse and the show’s website:
