Annex Gallery Opening: Conners & Slaybox

by on July 2, 2010

On July 8, Gallery Connexion’s Annex Gallery reveals two new exhibitions by Dorothy Connors and Slaybox. The exhibition by first year NBCCD student Slaybox titled “Through View Askew” is a photographic project detailing his initial explorations in Fredericton. The exhibition by painter Dorothy Connors titled “Singing in Color” features samples of her latest works. Both exhibitions open at the Annex Gallery located in the Playhouse at 686 Queen Street on Thursday, July 8 at 5 p.m.  Please join us for an opening reception. The exhibitions will run from July 8 to August 15, 2010. Admission is free.

Painting is Dorothy Connors’ hobby and passion. Singing in Color features samples of her latest works. There are usually people and much detail in her paintings. For most of her life Connors has been drawing and doodling but didn’t take up painting until after raising four children. It gives her pleasure, she says, to paint the things and people around her and the sights she enjoys.

Through View Askew is a photographic project detailing Slaybox’s initial explorations in Fredericton. His arrival in the city marked his first artistic foray and the photographs that would become Through View Askew are a testament to his personal state of affairs and the city that has become his home. In its final form, Through View Askew is the city through his eyes; the frame remains. However, laid over top is a layer of brilliant colour which all at once blurs the lines between objects while it pulls the city’s unique landscape to the forefront. A first year student at the College of Craft & Design, Slaybox is an artist who injects himself into his work as a means of creating his artistic persona. While he is studying screen printing, he is an artist who is unwilling to confine himself to a single artistic discipline.

The Annex Gallery is an initiative between Gallery Connexion and the Fredericton Playhouse to provide a juried exhibition space for Gallery Connexion members and for the Playhouse to include programmed exhibitions in its galleries.

The Annex Gallery is organized by a Gallery Connexion committee and facilitated by the Fredericton Playhouse.  For more information, contact Rita Sassani at
