John Hiatt, Big Sugar and Kermit Ruffins have been added to the list of headliners at this year’ Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton.

Harvest officials also announced Thursday that The Trews and Elliot Brook were added to the lineup for thClick to Enlargee 20th anniversary edition of the festival, running Sept. 14-19.

Previously announced performers are Gregg Allman and Jonny Lang.

This will be legendary American singer-songwriter Hiatt’s first appearance in Eastern Canada with two solo performances, one at The Playhouse on Sept. 17 and one at the Blues Tent on Sept. 18.

Harvest music director Brent Staeben said in a press release the festival aims to present a diverse spectrum of headline artists to get the city excited.

“But we also wanted to present some acts this year that

people from all over the Maritimes and Maine would simply have to come to Fredericton to experience,” he said.

Big Sugar will play a reunion of sorts with the Trews. Big Sugar’s front man Gordie Johnson produced The Trews’ first album, House of Ill Fame, in 2003 and has often collaborated with them on albums and in concert. Johnson and Kelly (Mr. Chill) Hoppe, Big Sugar’s harmonica and saxophone player, will play an acoustic set Sept. 16 in the Blues Tent and will join The Trews in a Blues Tent Super Session on Sept. 17. The Trews will then stick around to rock the Afterburner.

Jazz trumpeter and singer Kermit Ruffins and the Barbecue Swingers hit the Mojo stage Sept. 18 and the Playhouse Stage that afternoon. Juno-nominated folk-rock trio Elliott Brood headlines the Barracks Tent on Sept. 16.

Early bird festival tickets and passes go on sale online May 15 at 9 a.m., while the remainder of tickets and passes go on sale July 17. The full schedule will be announced at the Garrison Ale House at 11 a.m. on April 28.
